Sumo wrestler Yamamotoyama is all set to enter the controversial reality show this weekend

The inmates of the Bigg Boss house will now have to face some heavyweight competition. After roping in The Great Khali, in the last season, the channel will now bring in Suno wrestling champion Yamamotoyama in the reality show this year. Weighing approximately 265 kilo, the retired wrestler who was accused of match fixing in April 2011, will enter the house this weekend.

A source from the airport informed Mumbai Mirror, "Yamamotoyama will be arriving in Mumbai today from Tokyo by a Singapore Airlines flight at 22.50 hours. Since they have a new range of aircrafts - A380, A330-300 and Boeing 777-300, which has 30 inches wide premium First Class and Business class seats, it will be easier to accommodate Yama. Other airlines couldn't accommodate his size."

"His on ground transportation is a big concern and a range of SUVs are now being considered. The cars will have to have huge doors to enable Yama to enter the vehicle," added the source.

When contacted the channel, the spokesperson confirmed Yama's participation and added, "A different set up for his sleeping arrangement has been made. Also, a separate dining area has been created. He will first meet Sanjay Dutt on the sets. A translator will be present to help him communicate. Inside the house, the other contestants will be asked to use sign language to interact with Yama. He will also be given 8-10 placards with pictures like food, sleep, water etc."

76 hours wastes 19 crore in 15th Lok Sabha

The ninth session of the 15th Lok Sabha, which concluded on Thursday, will go down in history as one of the most disrupted sessions, wasting nearly half of the time in disruptions.

Speaker Meira Kumar also expressed concern that the house was able to take up just 40 starred questions during its 24 sittings averaging a mere 2.05 questions per day.

According to the statistics made available by the Lok Sabha secretariat, the house wasted 76 hours
and 21 minutes in disruptions, while it worked for 82 hours and 45 minutes.

Further, it could not take up any private member business, normally posted on Friday afternoon. Since it is estimated that an exchequer loses Rs25 lakh for every hour of disruption, at least Rs19 crore may have gone down the drain, since this Lok Sabha commenced the session on November 22.

The session, however, succeeded transacting financial business passing the supplementary demands for grants.

Also during the session 27 bills were introduced and 18 were passed, that includes the passage of the Lokpal and Lok Ayuktas Bill.

The discussion on supplementary demands for grants for Railways saw a record 96 Members of Parliament participating in the debate.

The 15th Lok Sabha, completing two-and-a-half years, has also the dubious distinction of being the most disrupted house. It has utilised just 72% of the allotted time so far.

“A look at the number of hours the Lok Sabha has been meeting over the last 25 years indicates a steady decline in productive time.
Further, at its current pace, the 15th Lok Sabha may be the most disrupted in the 25-year-period,” an NGO PRS Legislative Research said in arelease. At least 17% of the bills have been passed this year in less than five minutes without debates.

150 Mumbai Motorists caought for violating traffic rules

In an on-going drive against the motorists for violating various traffic rules, the traffic police booked 150 motorists for drunken driving at various places in Mumbai on Tuesday night, said DCP (Traffic) Nandkumar Chougule of Mumbai Traffic police.

Sixty three motorists were sent to simple imprisonment for drunken driving, while 62 motorists' driving licences were cancelled by the court.

Besides drunken driving, the traffic cops registered offences against 1,264 motorists for parking their vehicles in 'No Parking' areas in Mumbai.

351 two-wheeler riders were booked for not wearing a helmet and 238 were booked for not wearing ISI-marked helmets. Chougule added that 105 auto rickshaw drivers and 55 taxi drivers were fined for fare refusal.

The special drive is being conducted at various junctions in Mumbai since December 23 by the Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Vivek Phansalkar as an effort to curb drunken driving, rash driving, speeding, no parking and jumping traffic signals.

India Celebrate 100 years of National Anthem

The national anthem Jana Gana Mana... completed 100 years on Tuesday.

It was on this day in 1911 that the song, penned by Rabindranath Tagore, was first sung at the Calcutta session of the Indian National Congress.

Eventually, three years after India became independent, the Constituent Assembly officially adopted it as the country's national anthem - on January 24, 1950.

Written in highly Sanskritized Bengali, it is the first of five stanzas of a hymn composed and scored by Tagore. Its formal rendition takes 52 seconds.

The poem was composed at the time of the Coronation Durbar of George V. Some consider it to be in praise of King George V and not God.

Tagore, however, translated Jana Gana Mana into English as the Morning Song of India, addressing God and the motherland. He set it to music in Madanapalle, a town in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh.

There are official instructions regarding the correct version of the anthem, the occasions when it is to be played or sung, and about the need to pay respect to it.

लोकपाल विधेयकाच्या विरोधात बहुजन समाज पार्टी आणि समाजवादी पार्टीने सभात्याग केलाय. संसदेत लोकपाल आणि व्हिसलब्लोअर विधेयकावर संयुक्त चर्चा झाल्यानंतर मतदान घेण्यात आलं.

कॉर्पोरेट, एनजीओ आणि मीडीयावरील सुधारणा फेटाळून लावण्यात आल्या आहेत. त्यामुळे मीडीया, कॉर्पोरेट, एनजीओ लोकपालाच्या बाहेर असणार आहेत. सीपीएमच्या सुचवलेल्या या सुधारणांच्या बाजूनं ६९ तर सुधारणांविरोधात २४७ सदस्य होते.

Lok Sabha passes Lokpal Bill

New Delhi: Lok Sabha passes constitutional amendment bill, Ayes- 321, Noes – 71, Abstaining – 2, Total – 394.  Lokpal and Lokayuktas Bill, 2011 passed as amended Motion to include media and NGOs receiving foreign funds under Lokpal voted negative.  The numerical strength of the treasury benches working in its favour in the clause by clause amendment voting. 

 SP and BSP on Tuesday staged a walk out from the Lok Sabha shortly before the voting on the Lokpal Bill in protest against government bringing a "weak" legislation.

"We had demanded a strong Lokpal. It is not strong. It is sarkari Lokpal. There is no meaning to it. It was brought in a hurry and under Anna Hazare's pressure," SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav told reporters.

Asked why did he not protest against the bill in the House by voting against it, Yadav said, "We don't want to support BJP."

Anna may be hospitalised - Mumbai

Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare‘s health is deteriorating. He is running high temperature and blood pressure.

A team from JJ hospital has examined Anna. His blood report is awaited. If the report comes out positive, Anna may be forcibly hospitalised. Meanwhile Team Anna has been trying to convince Anna to break his fast.

Several ambulances and doctors are on stand-by at the MMRDA grounds to meet any emergency.

Doctors who have been attending to Anna over the last few months had earlier advised Anna against fasting. He therefore took a decision to keep his fast limited to three days.

Meanwhile Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan has appealed to Anna to break his fast.

Mumbai: Anna Hazare arrived here tonight from his native village in Ahmednagar district for his three-day fast beginning tomorrow against the government’s “weak” Lokpal Bill.

The Gandhian checked in at the state government guest house in suburban Bandra at 8.45 pm. He would stay there overnight before arriving at the fast venue.

Earlier, hundreds of villagers gathered to see him off at Ralegan Siddhi as he left by road for Alandi, where he paid tributes at Sant Dnyaneshwar Samadhi before reaching Mumbai.

To a query on his health, a Hazare said, “I’m fine”.

He refused to take further questions from the media saying, “I’ll be talking to you for the next three days.”

Incidentally, the guest house is near the residence of Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray, whose party has been opposing Hazare on the Lokpal Bill.

Tomorrow morning, Hazare will go to the Juhu beach where there is a statue of Mahatma Gandhi and take his blessings. He will be later escorted to the fast venue — the MMRDA ground at suburban Bandra-Kurla Complex — by a motorbike rally.

The anti-graft crusader will begin his fast from 11 am.

Key members of his team, Arvind Kejriwal and Kiran Bedi, are scheduled to fast with Hazare in Mumbai, while some others will undertake the fast in Delhi.

Near About 75000 People ready to go jail with Anna

73,500 and counting: that’s the number of people across India who have signed up until now for the “jail bharo andolan” (fill-the-jails protest) for three days from 30 December to demand a strong Lokpal Bill and to express solidarity with Anna Hazare’s fast.

The innovative campaign, launched by India Against Corruption, the nodal agency that has been pitching for a Jan Lokpal Bill, has harnessed the power of the Internet by asking anyone who intends to participate to “register” on the jailchalo.com website.

It’s hard to say if everyone who registers will actually get down to it when the campaign begins on Friday, but the proud declarations on Twitter by many who have signed up appears to suggest that there is sufficient bottom-up exuberance to be part of what is undeniably one of the more momentous political campaigns in recent years.

It’s one thing to rage on social media platforms or even to turn up for candle-light vigils and protests, the popular expressions of political awakening among what is derisively dismissed as the middle class. Those are the easy, cop-out ways of aligning oneself to a political cause.

However, for so many people to offer to court arrest in support of a cause that, in their reckoning, is big enough to shape the destiny of the nation points to a commitment of a much higher order. Remember, also, that this is profile of protestors likely come from a socio-economic background where ‘going to jail’ taints them for life

However noble the cause, and however deep the passion, the decision to court arrest cannot be taken lightly. The reasons for that go beyond just the perceptions of “social stigma” that adheres itself when you get mixed up with law.

On her blog, media commentator Harini Calamur flags the real-world consequences that might accrue from going to jail. Since the right to protest peacefully is protected by the Constitution, going to jail implies wilful violation of some law, she argues.

“For all the youngsters, who in your idealism want to break the law and get to prison, a small reminder. IF you go to jail, you…may…end up with a criminal record. That record stays for ever and ever and ever. It will come into play when you apply for a job, your passport, want to go abroad to study or work. I am not sure if it will impact a bank loan – but I am not sure that the banks will give a loan to someone who had a record….No one will tell you this, because it suits them not to. For those proposing jail bharo – you are a head count. For the media, you are drama.”

Calamur’s case for reflection on the part of adrenaline-driven youngsters before they commit themselves to this campaign and “fill the jails” is hard to contest. Yet, not being trained in law, she perhaps overstated the risks from participation in a campaign such as this.

For a legal perspective on the circumstances of a campaign such as this and its implications for participants, one turns to Spread Law, a legal blog committed to spreading legal awareness in India.

On it, founder Sumit Nagpal lays out a case for why, so long as the jail bharo protest is peaceful, there is no reason for protestors to be afraid of the law – or the consequences. “Peaceful protest is a form of civil disobedience and cannot attract heavy criminal action,” notes Nagpal. And as Anna Hazare has repeatedly made clear, he wishes the movement to remain peaceful, irrespective of the provocations it may face.

Even the other risks that Calamur flagged – of consequences in the event of applying for a job or a visa or a passport – appear to be overstated. “In case of any job application or a visa application, you will only be asked if you have been convicted for any offence or not,” reasons Nagpal. “”And conviction is different from being arrested.”

In cases such as this, a person will merely be taken into custody for preventive purposes – and will likely be let off after an undertaking that he/she shall not breach public peace and tranquility. “So a person is not convicted (and) one doesn’t need to mention about this in any job application or any other such application,” counsels Nagpal.

None of this, of course, should be construed as legal advice or as free-wheeling counsel to embrace the protest movement, particularly since no individual participant will be in control of the overall dynamics of the protest. In any case, that is a decision for each individual to make. Yet, both sides of the argument are presented here for greater illumination on the subject since not everyone may be familiar with the law.

Even so, going by the enthusiasm that many of the people who have signed on for the jail bharo campaign have exhibited – as exemplified by this message – it appears that they see it as a chance for them to be a part of a milestone moment in India’s history.

अन्ना के साथ लगभग 75 हजार लोग जेल जाने को तैयार

मुंबई। 27 दिसंबर को अन्‍ना सशक्‍त लोकपाल बिल की मांग को लेकर अनशन करने वाले हैं। इस अनशन को लेकर तैयारियां युद्ध स्‍तर पर चल रही है। अनशन के बाद 1 जनवरी को अन्‍ना जेल भरो आंदोलन भी करने वाले हैं। ऐसे में टीम अन्‍ना ने दावा किया है कि दो दिन के अंदर ही लगभग 75 हजार लोगों ने जेल जाने वाली सूची में अपना नाम दर्ज करवा दिया है। मालूम हो कि मुंबई के एमएमआरडीए ग्राउंड में अन्‍ना का अनशन होना है।

उल्‍लेखनीय है कि अन्‍ना का अनशन मंगलवार को एमएमआरडीए ग्राउंड में होना है। अन्‍ना का यह अनशन तीन दिनों का होगा। मैदान के बारे में आपको बताते चलें कि यह मैदान 30 हजार वर्ग फीट में फैला है। मैदान में अन्ना का पंडाल किस तरफ होगा, लोग किधर से आएंगे, कितने एंट्री गेट बनाए जाएंगे, वीवीआईपी की एंट्री कहां से होगी, ऐसे कई सारे मसलों पर कागजी प्लान तैयार कर लिया गया है और मैदान पर इसे अब रूप दिया जा रहा है।

सीएनएन आईबीएन के एक रिपोर्ट की मानें तो मैदान की क्षमता 60 हजार लोगों की है। मैदान के चारों तरफ पुलिस का घेरा होगा। टीम अन्‍ना के सदस्‍य में सुरक्षा में रहेंगे और निगरानी का काम देखेंगे। मैदान में 10 से ज्‍यादा एंबुलेंस और 20 से ज्‍यादा एंबुलेंस आस-पास के इलाकों में घूमते रहेंगे। फायर ब्रिगेड की 2 गाडि़यां होगी। गौरतलब है कि 20 दिसंबर को अन्‍ना का आंदोलन समाप्‍त होगा और उसके बार 30 दिसंबर से तीन दिन तक जेल भरो आंदोलन होगा।

ध्‍यान देने वाली बात यह है कि इंडिया अगेंस्‍ट करप्‍शन पर एक वेबसाइट शुरु की है जिसका नाम है जेल चलो आंदोलन। इस वेबसाइट पर जाने के बाद जो भी अन्‍ना के आंदोलन में जेल जाना चाहता है वह अपना नाम रजिस्‍ट्रेशन करा सकता है। टीम अन्‍ना की मानें तो अबतक इसमें 80 हजार लोग अपना नाम रजिस्‍ट्रेशन करा चुके हैं। अन्‍ना हजारे ने बताया कि इस बार अनशन पर उनके साथ उनके कुछ सदस्‍य भी बैठेंगे।

Petrol Price May Be Mark Up Rs 1 from Next Month

Petrol price may be rise by about a rupee per litre from next month as the Indian currency has weakened against the US dollar making imports costlier.

The rate change may, however, need a political clearance as assembly elections in five crucial states, including Uttar Pradesh and Punjab, have been announced.

"While international price of gasoline (against which domestic petrol prices are bench marked) are more or less at the same level (as at the time of last revision), the rupee has depreciated to about Rs 52.70 to a US dollar," a top official said.

The domestic rates, which were last revised on November 30, are pegged at Rs 51.50 to a US dollar exchange rate.

The average exchange rate in first fortnight of December was Rs 51.98 to a US dollar, which has further deteriorated.
State-owned oil companies like Indian Oil Corp (IOC) use fortnightly average of benchmark oil price and exchange rate to revise retail rates on 1st and 16th of every month.

The next review is due on December 31 and if the oil companies decide to pass on the exchange rate fluctuations to consumers, the new rates would be effective from January 1.

"There is an under-recovery of about 85 paise (Rs 0.85) per litre currently. After adding local sales tax, the desired increase in retail prices would be Rs 1.02 per litre," the official said.

The government continues to control rates of diesel, domestic LPG and kerosene which were sold way below cost to keep inflation under check. The oil firms lose Rs 12.95 per litre on diesel, Rs 29.99 a litre on kerosene and Rs 287 per 14.2-kg LPG cylinder.

The oil firms had in November cut petrol prices twice on drop in international oil rates. The companies reduced petrol prices by Rs 2.22 per litre, or 3.2 per cent, from November 16, followed by a Rs 0.78 per litre cut from December 1.

या कॅलेंडरच्या प्रत्येक पानावर शिवसेना बीजेपीचा मॅनिफेस्टो छापण्यात आलाय. यातून लोकांना पुन्हा आठवण करून देण्यात आलीय की, भाजप-सेनेनं काय आश्वासनं दिली होती. भाजप सेनेनं नेमकी कोणती आश्वासनं पूर्ण केली आणि कोणती नाहीत.

An Indian Research Solar paint Produce Power your home

Bangalore: New research led by an Indian origin professor in the U.S heralds the day when one can apply a coat of paint on the outside walls of a house to generate electricity from sunlight that can be used to power the appliances and equipment on the inside.

The team of researchers at the University of Notre Dame in the U.S has developed an inexpensive "solar paint" that uses semiconducting nanoparticles to produce energy.

The research led by chemistry professor Prashant Kamat in Notre Dame's Center for Nano Science and Technology is described in ACS Nano, a journal published by the American Chemical Society. The scientists have appropriately christened their product as "Sun-Believable Solar Paint".

"By making use of recent advances in semiconductor nanocrystal research, we have now developed a one-coat solar paint for designing quantum dot solar cells," Kamat and co-workers said.

The researchers said they wanted to do something transformative, to move beyond current silicon-based solar technology.

"By incorporating power-producing nanoparticles, called quantum dots, into a spreadable compound, we've made a one-coat solar paint that can be applied to any conductive surface without special equipment."

According to the researchers, their paint is based on nano-sized particles of titanium dioxide coated with either cadmium sulfide or cadmium selenide. Describing the work they said the particles were suspended in a water-alcohol mixture to create the binder-free paste which was then applied to conducting glass surface and annealed at 200 degrees C.

"When the paste was brushed onto a transparent conducting material and exposed to light, it created electricity."

This paste of nanoparticles when applied on surfaces using simple conventional paint brush "could turn large surfaces into solar cells", says a statement by the Notre Dame University.

The best light-to-energy conversion efficiency reached so far is 1 percent, which is much less than the usual 10 to 15 percent efficiency of commercial silicon solar cells. "But this paint can be made cheaply and in large quantities," the researchers claim.

"If we can improve the efficiency somewhat, we may be able to make a real difference in meeting energy needs in the future."

"Whereas further improvements are necessary to develop strategies for large area, this initial effort to prepare solar paint offers the advantages of simple design and economically viable next generation solar cells," the researchers said.

Kamat and his team also plan to study ways to improve the stability of the new material.

Superb Opening Don2 In all Over India

Don 2 took an excellent opening this morning in its early couple of shows at multiplexes of around 75-80%.

There were places like Ahmedabad and Noida which opened to 100% collections but there were places like Nagpur and Jodhpur which were around than 70%. On the whole the all India average at multiplexes this morning was around 80-85%. Delhi city opened to around 80% while Ra.One was 100%

The opening of the film is not as strong as Ra.One but that film had Diwali Puja to contend with and collections fell from 1 pm onwards so despite a lower opening it is possible that Don 2 could see first day collections in the range of the first day of Ra.One.

Don 2 has been released on 3000 screens approx across India.

Team Anna pay 3.5 Lakh per day for Fast in Mumbai

Mumbai: After rejecting the Lokpal bill that was presented in the Lok Sabha on Thursday, Anna Hazare filing a writ petition in the Bombay High Court seeking direction to the state government to allot a place for the protest.

He is ready for fast from December 27. "Maharashtra government is not giving us a place to protest peacefully so we had to file this petition with the Bombay High Court," Himanshu Shah, who looks after legal matters of India Against Corruption, spearheading Hazare's anti-graft protests here, told PTI.

Jagruk Nagrik Manch is an affiliate of IAC. "When we wanted Azad maidan, we were told that we cannot sit there beyond 6 pm, and when we wanted MMRDA grounds we were asked to pay up in lakhs. We don't have that kind of money as we are a non profit making organization," he said, adding "This seems to be an attempt by the Delhi to ensure that we don't protest."

Maintaining that Rs 3.5 lakh per day rent for MMRDA ground for Anna Hazare's fast was too steep, Team Anna had sought state government's intervention for lowering it. IAC, which got the permission to rent the MMRDA ground here to host the next leg of Anna Hazare's anti-corruption campaign, had on Tuesday written to chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, requesting for waiver or reduction of rent. However, the government's response is still awaited. Earlier in the day, key Hazare aide Arvind Kejriwal had told a press conference in Ghaziabad that the anti-graft crusader will fast at Azad Maidan. (PTI)

Shocking in Police Coustdy 1574 Pepole deaths by NHRC

New Delhi, Dec 21: A shocking report submitted by the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) revealed that as many as 1,574 people were killed in judicial and police custody in the country last year.

According to the data, Uttar Pradesh reported the maximum number of deaths with 331 deaths at police and judicial custody. Meanwhile, Maharashtra was the only state to record more than 30 deaths in police custody.

The NHRC submitted the data in the ongoing session of the Rajya Sabha in response to MP HK Dua's query. “We collect the data on the basis of individual complaints as well as those sent by prison authorities.

The most complaints were sent from UP,” said an NHRC official. Andhra Pradesh, Bihar and Maharashtra are the other states where more than 100 custodial deaths were reported. “Once we have received the intimation about any custodial death, we conduct our independent inquiry and prepare a report. If any official is found guilty, we send advice to the district administration. The NHRC also calls for reports for ascertaining any foul play or negligence," the official added.

If Citizen Charter is ignored then the said employee will be punished by Lokpal and a fine will be imposed on employee which will be paid to citizens.
Reporting of Lokpal Members	All members will report to Government only. Only government will be able to remove any member by filing a petition in the Honorable Supreme Court.	Members reporting will be directly towards general public. Any citizen can remove a corrupt Lokpal member by filing a case in Honorable Supreme Court.
Corruption in Lokpal Staff	Lokpal will be the only body to hear the cases and that will make it of no use. Reach of Lokpal	Lokpal will cover ‘A’ grade officials under central government. No officials and employees below ‘A’ grade position will come under it. Over 80% corruption takes place in the region below ‘A’ grade like Panchayats, Road, School, Hospital etc. This will help rich citizens only.	Each employee under Central government will come under Lokpal. On the verge of Lokpal, a Lokayukta will be made in states to check corruption at the state level. The complaints would be made directly to Lokpal and Lokayukta.
Punishment to Corrupts	Maximum 10 years of punishment.	Maximum punishment of Life Sentence in Jail. Higher the official, bigger the punishment.
Judicial Corruption	A three member committee consisting of three judges of the same court will approve the investigation.	How a committee from same court will ever grant permission for investigation. Anna’s Janlokpal bill says that a Seven member committee of Lokpal will make an open hearing to such corruptions.
Removing the Corrupt Official	Minister from the same department can only remove an official who is found corrupt.	An open hearing will take place to take a decision on the removal of a corrupt official. Lokpal committee will discuss the issue.

Bollywood pay Anna Hazare movement for Fast in Mumbai

Mumbai, Dec 21: A day after Team Anna and the Gandhian expressed their unhappiness over the high rentals of the grounds in Bandra, Bollywood music composer-singer Vishal Dadlani has offered to sponsor a day's fast for the septuagenarian.

"I support the issue taken by Anna Hazare and would be part of this movement in every possible way. I would sponsor a day's fast. (which comes up to Rs two lakh)," said Vishal.

The singer had also expressed his support to Anna by singing patriotic songs in Aug during his fast at Azad Maidan this year.

"The whole country is united for eradicating corruption from our system. As a responsible citizen, I will do whatever is there in my capacity for this movement," Vishal said.

Anna Hazare will continue his agitation from Dec 27 demanding for a strong Lokpal Bill. It is, however, not clear if other Team Anna members will fast along with the anti-corruption crusader.

"Arvind Kejriwal has informed us that he will be participating in the fast in Mumbai. This topic has not been discussed with Prashant Bhushan and Kiran Bedi so far and therefore I cannot confirm their participation. This, however, does not mean they will not sit on fast along with others," Suresh Pathare, Hazare's close aide, said.

The statement came after Team Anna was criticised by detractors that the members should have taken up the fast, instead of Anna Hazare.
