Rajasthan Me Rajasthan Ko Mat Mumbai in Top 4
Dwayne
Smith and Sachin Tendulkar shared the highest opening stand in the
Indian Premier League (IPL) to propel Mumbai Indians to a 10-wicket
victory over Rajasthan Royals in the final league match of the T20
tournament on Sunday.
Smith smashed 87 off 58 balls while Tendulkar struck a fluent 58 off 51 as Mumbai overcame the target with 12 balls to spare. Medium pacer Dhawal Kulkarni (3/18) starred with the ball before his side cantered to a morale-boosting win ahead of its knock-out game against Chennai Super Kings in Bangalore on Wednesday.
The 163-run partnership between the master blaster and Smith saw 16 fours besides three big ones coming from the bat of the West Indian. The memorable opening stand surpassed the effort of Chennai Super Kings' Murali Vijay and Michael Hussey, who had made 159 against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2011 edition.
While Mumbai had already qualified for the play-offs as the third-placed team, Royals were playing for pride after being eliminated from the competition.
Royals set-up a decent total to end their IPL-V campaign on a high but Tendulkar and Smith came up with a special performance to script Mumbai Indians' victory.
Earlier, Royals blasted 56 off the last five overs to push the score beyond 150.
The in-form opening combination of Ajinkya Rahane (13) and Rahul Dravid (5) fell cheaply, leaving the team at 32 for two in 5.2 overs.
Star all-rounder Shane Watson (45) along with Stuart Binny (30) steadied the innings with a 53-run stand.
Watson was once again at his belligerent best, hitting fours and a couple of sixes in his 36-ball innings.
Binny too was impressive during his cameo. The highlight of his innings was hammering opposition skipper Harbhajan Singh for 22 runs in the 10th over. Owais Shah chipped in with an unbeaten 28.

SRK should banned for life from Wankhede Stadium Mumbai
Mumbai: Bollywood actor and Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders co-owner Shah Rukh Khan is to be banned by Mumbai Cricket Association from entering the Wankhede Stadium for life following an altercation he had on Tuesday night with security and officials of the association.
The incident occurred outside the Wankhede Stadium late on Wednesday night. The MCA officials alleged that the actor got drunk after his team KKR beat the Mumbai Indians. They claimed the actor misbehaved with the security personnel when they refused to let him enter the ground after the match. The MCA has decided to file a case and says it will ban the actor from entering the Wankhede Stadium for life. Continue reading below
"He misbehaved and abused the MCA security personnel as well as MCA officials, including our president Vilasrao Deshmukh, after the IPL match. We have decided to ban him for life from entering the stadium in future," MCA treasurer Ravi Savant said.
Giving the background to what happened after the KKR's 32-run rout of MI at the Wankhede, Savant said Shah Rukh and his posse of bodyguards had gone up to the teams' dressing room and then came down and started to go on to the ground.
"The MCA security personnel told them they cannot do so as the match was over which led to Shah Rukh abusing them as well as the MCA officials. There was manhandling too by his people. We have decided to ban him from all future matches at the stadium. We are also going to lodge a police complaint against him," Savant said.
Asked whether the MCA would lodge a complaint with the BCCI over one of the IPL team owner's behaviour, Savant said all the altercation had taken place in the presence of IPL CEO Sundar Raman and BCCI's media manager Devendra Prabhudesai. "Of course we will lodge a complaint with the BCCI also," Savant said.
ACP Iqbal Sheikh said an enquiry will be conducted into the matter. "We will conduct an enquiry. Statements and footage will be seen," said the ACP.

Mother’s Day is a day for many people to show their appreciation towards mothers and mother figures worldwide. It is an annual event but is held at different dates in the calendar, depending on the country.

Heart Breking match Mumbai Indians fabulous won against Chennai Super Kings
Mumbai: A
Mumbai Indians versus Chennai Super Kings match-up is usually a big
game irrespective of context, but coming as it did with the teams placed
three and four in a traffic jam-like points table, it assumed even more
significance.
The match lived up to its billing, with more twists and turns than a mountain road, and ended with Dwayne Smith smashing 14 runs off the final three balls to snatch victory for Mumbai.
It didn't look like Mumbai would win, when with 27 needed off the final three overs, MS Dhoni threw the ball to Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja took the wickets of Ambati Rayudu and Rohit Sharma, while conceding only two runs, to completely transform the match. It was not the first remarkable swing in the match and, sadly for Chennai, not the last. That came when Ben Hilfenhaus - who had picked up two wickets while conceding less than a run a ball - had three balls left to bowl with 14 runs to defend. Those disappeared for a six and two fours, asSmith to stole a remarkable win.
It was set up by Sachin Tendulkar and Rohit, who shared a 126-run stand for the second wicket. Tendulkar took off with three fours in an Albie Morkel over, and never let up. A half-century came in just 32 balls, and Mumbai were comfortably placed at 131 for 1 after 15 overs. Chennai needed a moment of magic, and Faf du Plessis provided just that, plucking the ball out of the air to send Tendulkar back for 74 off 44. It was still Mumbai's game to lose, and they threatened to do just that before being rescued by Smith.
Earlier, Murali Vijay led Chennai's charge. Horribly out of form coming into the match - 45 runs off 59 balls from six innings - he ended up smashing 41 off 29. The man who turned in the most impressive spell for Mumbai was RP Singh. Vijay had smashed Munaf Patel for 24 runs to take Chennai to 46 for no loss after 5 overs, but Singh provided the vital breakthrough by castling him an over later. When Chennai had recovered through Suresh Raina to be 114 for 2 after 14 overs, he pulled off a brilliant catch at point to send Raina back for 36 off 21. He then came back for his final over to get the wickets of both Dhoni and Morkel, ending with 3 for 28.
Chennai's 173 was a good total, but not formidable on a batting pitch, and so it proved in the end

Ganesh idols will not grow taller than 15 feet in Ganesh Chaturthi
Mumbai: Days of Ganesh idols towering over the city at over 25 feet are over. Now, idols of the Hinduism’s revered elephant god, the harbinger of good fortune, will not grow taller than 15 feet, the committee that oversees the festival has decided.
“Owing to various reasons, including environmental problems and traffic snarls, we have voluntarily decided that all gigantic idols of Lord Ganesh will be of a maximum height of 15 feet. Add to this a base of three feet, making the idol in its entirety only 18 feet,” Naresh Dahibhavkar, president of the Brihan Mumbai Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Samanvaya Samiti (BSGSS), told a news agency.
The 11-day Ganeshotsav starts on 11 September.
He said that setting the height limit was a unanimous decision of representatives of all Ganeshotsav committees, social and public figures, artists and idol-makers.
For over 10 years, BSGSS has been urging the nearly 10,500 festival associations in the city to limit the height of the idols since tall idols led to accidents and claimed lives of devotees. Finally, they agreed to set a bar.
Members of several associations have welcomed the restriction. They said it would also provide a relief to the security personnel guarding the idols.
“In some Ganeshotsav marquees, there are private security guards along with police personnel, hand-held and door frame metal detectors and close-circuit cameras, which add to the cost of the celebrations,” said S Dinkar, a former committee member of a Kandivli association.
Also, the smaller the idol, the lesser will the associations have to pay for it. “An 18-foot idol will cost Rs 75,000 on an average. For bigger idols, the cost doubles,” Dahibhavkar said.
However, the biggest issue is that large idols are difficult to handle while being carried through the narrow streets of Mumbai to the crowded beaches for immersion, he said. The procession creates traffic snarls and stops suburban trains for hours. The processions also have to take long detours to avoid the flyovers dotting the city.
Thus, the immersion process is slowed down. Usually, it takes the Lalbaugcha Raja (the famous idol of the Lalbaug locality) up to 20 hours to cover an eight-km way from Parel to Girgaum Chowpatty.
The problems continue even after the immersion, with many of the gigantic idols not getting dissolved in the seawater and washing ashore the next day, littering the beaches, creating environmental hazards and embarrassing the devotees.
Larger-than-life idols also attract viewers, who crowd the roads, balconies and rooftops all along the route to the beaches. Last year on 11 September, an overcrowded roof of a shop collapsed in Parel, killing one person and injuring over 12, while the people were trying to have a darshan (glimpse) of the Lalbaugcha Raja.
Last year again, an idol was damaged while it was being transported on rain-hit roads to the marquee in south-central Mumbai. Many saw the incident as a bad omen.
“There was a competitive spirit among the associations — each vying to construct the tallest idol,” said Dahibhavkar.
In south-central Mumbai, old festival associations prefer the idols’ heights between 22 and 25 feet.
In Mumbai, the tallest Ganesh idol has stood at 32 feet at a Ganeshotsav eight years ago.
The height race has spread to other parts of Maharashtra with gigantic idols being installed in Konkan, Pune, Jalgaon, Kolhapur and Thane.
“There were several reasons behind this obsession for constructing tall Ganesh idols. Large idols attract devotees, sponsors, celebrities and media,” said V Shrikrishna, member of a Mira Road Ganeshotsav association in Thane.
Smaller idols will also cost the associations less.
Last year, BSGSS had under its umbrella over 10,500 public Ganeshotsav associations and 175,000 household Ganesh idols in the city. In the rest of Maharashtra, over 700,000 idols are worshipped and over 25,000 exported to devotees in different countries, said Dahibhavkar.
Started by freedom fighter Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak in 1894 with a small idol, the festival today has transformed into a major social festival and tourist attraction centered around the community worship of Ganesh, the lovable, pot-bellied, four-armed god who is said to remove all obstacles from people’s path and bring them luck.
“The festival is no longer restricted to a particular state or community. It has transgressed social, religious, cultural and international boundaries and is an example of national integration,” he said.

In Mumbai Dabbawallas Dabba Also Costly
Mumbai: The soaring inflation has pinched hard Mumbai’s famous tribe of dabbawallas, who ferry lunch boxes to and fro in the city daily. From 1 June, they plan to hike their monthly delivery charges by Rs 50 per customer..
It would mean an increase of 8 to 10 percent on the current rates paid by the customers depending on the distances from home to office and vice-versa, said Kiran Gawande, secretary, Nutan Mumbai Tiffin Box Suppliers Association.
“This is the third time in two years that we have been compelled to effect the hike in delivery charges. Even last year, we had increased the rate by an average Rs.50, preceded by a Rs.20 hike. Fortunately, the customers understood our plight and we did not have a single cancellation,” Gawande told IANS Wednesday.
He explained that the general inflationary trends coupled with the recent hike in train fares have forced the dabbawallas to reluctantly hike their charges.
Over 200,000 tiffin boxes are delivered daily to officegoers at their work places from homes and back home again by a dedicated tribe of 5,000 in an all-weather operation spanning Mumbai and Thane districts.
Gawande said over 121 years ago, when the tiffin box carrier service was started by a band of 35 dabbawallas, they charged between 10-15 paise per month per customer.
“Over the years, the delivery rates have gone up to between Rs.500-750 per month, depending on the distance covered,” Gawande said.
